AllMusic Review by

Neil Sedaka's luck ran out on Steppin' Out, the third of his three "comeback" albums recorded with co-producer Graham Gouldman. It follows the same formula as its predecessors, Sedaka's Back and The Hungry Years, but the songs aren't nearly as strong. There are no memorable tunes here, and the craft simply doesn't offer the pleasures it once did. Consequently, it's only of interest to hardcore followers. [Varese Sarabande's 1998 CD reissue contained four bonus tracks, including "Should've Never Let You Go," his hit duet with his daughter Dara.]
