Starstruck: Star's Greatest Hits (1998) compiles songs made by various artists signed to Philippine independent Star Records, which was established in the mid-'90s. Pleasant easy listening music is the dominant music made by local artists in the Philippines, and it's no wonder that Starstruck: Star's Greatest Hits is packed with slow easy listening numbers. Despite the album's general pleasantness, some songs sound derivative, including "Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita" (Because I Love You So Much) and "Pasulyap" (Can I Have a Glance); it's almost as if these songs have been heard with some variation elsewhere. One of the better songs is "Sana'y Makapiling Ka" (Hoping to Be With You) performed by female singer Jolina Magdangal in a dramatic minor key. "'Til It's Time" performed by female singer Carol Banawa, "I'm Sorry" performed by female singer Jamie Rivera, and "Only You" performed by female singer Pops Fernandez are also nice, though these also sound similar in places. The album's best and most contemporary song is "Someday...Me and You," performed by the group Mystery, which starts on a mellow vibe and builds to an upbeat, sensuous melody braced by reverb-edged guitar chords.
