Baritonist Pepper Adams and trumpeter Donald Byrd teamed up on a regular basis during the late '50s and early '60s. For this Bethlehem LP, they utilize an all-star sextet that also includes guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Paul Chambers and a drummer identified as "Hey" Lewis who was actually Louis Hayes. The unit stretches out on Erroll Garner's rarely-performed but rewarding "Trio," a pair of Adams originals, Thad Jones' "Bitty Ditty" and a memorable rendition of "Stardust." Well worth searching for.
