AllMusic Review by

Part of Collectables' 1995 series, this brings together 17 tracks issued on the Rainbow label, all of it solid, early doo-wop as crude and real as it gets. The albums kicks off with the absolutely beautiful "You're My Inspiration" by the Five Crowns (who check in with three other masterpieces), while solid entries from Lee Andrew & the Hearts (great versions of "Bells of St. Mary" and "White Cliffs of Dover"), the Clovers, the Startones, the Jets, the Marquis, the Swans, the Love Notes, the Duvals, the Winners, and the Dappers complete the collection. Almost everything sounds like it was pulled from disc -- the original Rainbow pressings were particularly claustrophobic sounding -- but a package like this is all about the music, and on that basis, it can't really be faulted. As usual, there are no liner notes or recording information -- typical of early Collectables packaging -- but, man, what a nice chunk of great vocalizing.
