Richard Stoltzman's Spirits is a an eclectic, provocative, and relaxing album that creates new musical territory. Stoltzman draws from music as varied as Bach and Duke Ellington, adding elements of world music to his distinctive, hypnotic brew. Some listeners might find Spirits a bit monotonous, but people willing to open their minds to healing new sounds and lovely, mellow sonic textures will find this album an unexpected delight.
