The second release by Terry Waldo's Ragtime Orchestra is the equal of the first. Although it is generally assumed that ragtime was a solo piano music, during the ragtime era many orchestras also performed the music. Waldo, who uses two trumpets, one trombone, clarinet, flute/piccolo, violin, cello, tuba, drums and his own piano on this LP (along with a few vocals by the flexible Susan LaMarche), revives some colorful orchestrations from seven decades before and the results are generally quite memorable. Highlights include "Some Sweet Day," "Slip Horn Stuff," "Slow and Easy," "Misery Rag," "Trombone Francois" and "The Hold Up Rag."
