Fast and furious executions from Kirsch's fingers push the trio's rendition of Duke Ellington's "Take the a Train" at a frantic pace. A bass solo breaks this tempo momentarily, before some Buddy Rich -esque drumming rekindles the groove. The trio follows with a tune gentle enough to lullaby a baby to sleep, establishing the albums' pattern of a high-octane jam followed by a sedate, low-octane one highlighting Kirsch's articulate piano playing. Every jam features predictable solos from the bassist and the drummer, and while the nearly 60 minutes of music gets monotonous at times, the high level of playing never diminishes.
