AllMusic Review by

Another offshoot of Time Life's Sounds of the Eighties series, each volume of The Rolling Stone Collection covers a couple years of the decade and rounds up selections that are geared toward the tastes of the average Rolling Stone reader. The discs stray from the mainstream concentration of the mother series and blend college radio favorites with the kind of artists favored by the magazine's old guard. The 1980-1981 volume features Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty's "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime," David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes," the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays," and Bob Marley & the Wailers' "Redemption Song."
