A breathless, breakneck hardcore and speedcore sampler, Sound Pollution: High Energy High Voltage lives up to the high energy part of the title. Covering the entire history of the Sound Pollution label, and nicely balanced between hits and rarities, the 50 songs (in 69-and-a-half minutes!) have the energy level of a hummingbird. The problem is in the voltage; far too many of these songs just zip past in a hyperspeed, hardcore blur, with little to make themselves memorable, or even particularly interesting. It just seems a shame when a song with a title like "More Bananas for the Punx" is otherwise completely undistinguished. On the plus side, the disc does have two utterly wonderful pieces of noisy bubblegum punk by Japan's Dudoos, though unfortunately, both are easily available on their highly recommended Sound Pollution releases. Still, at a list price of $5, it's easy to find the highlights.
