This thinly veiled commercial for up-and-coming Warner Music Group artists turns its amplifiers toward director Bryan Singer's 2006 remake/update of the Superman franchise. Beginning with a power pop rendition of R.E.M.'s "Superman" by emo/punk rockers the Academy Is..., Sound of Superman states its intentions early on, promising a collection of tight, mini-soundtracks for future Mountain Dew commercials and OC montages that alternate between Clark Kent ("The Worst Part...") and the man of steel himself "My Hero." Strangest of all is the faithful left-field cover of XTC side project the Dukes of Stratosphear's "Brainiac's Daughter" by Swedish indie rockers Royal, but even that can't save desperate renditions of the Flaming Lips' "Waitin' for Superman" (Nightmare of You) and Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" (the Films).
