A relatively average album of soukous music, though the focus is on soukous in the broader sense -- dance music from French-speaking Africa. The bulk of the music hails from the Congo and Central Africa, though Mali is represented as well (very rarely included within concept of soukous). Elements known more as makossa are also present thanks to the broader definition of soukous for this album. Happy, guitar-based pop is the standard in general, however, and the album delivers on that aspect in spades. Worth a listen for soukous addicts who want to hear what's beyond the big names and acts on other compilations, but many of those other compilations on the market will suffice as well as or better than this one as a basic soukous primer.
