Coffee is a South Louisiana band who flies the flag for the Memphis soul sound of the 1960s big-time. Led by bassist extraordinaire David Hyde and featuring the estimable pipes of Ernest Scott, the band sports a trimmed-down, compact style that immediately invites the listener to get up and dance. The horns punctuate in all the right spots, the song selection is top-notch, and the production is uncluttered throughout. There's not a level at which this record doesn't succeed. If real soulful music is your thing, then this band is right up your alley.
