After a few R&B hits in the late '60's Freddie Hughes disappeared, he returns 30 years later with a fresh new set and new fervor. No longer does he sound and phrase like Eddie Holland, the new Hughes is a cross between late R&B/Blues greats' Johnnie Taylor and Z Z Hill. The nine tracks, many written by Hughes, are southern soul with some deep soul excursions, i.e., "Rock My Soul." The most engaging tracks include a remake of Charles Wright's "Loveland," the uptempo "Do My Thing," the lilting "Future Is Now," and "Mirage."
