The problem with Soul Legends is that of the ten tracks it assembles, only about half actually fit snugly into the soul music category -- for every logical choice like Clarence Carter's "I Got Caught Making Love" or Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me," there's a curious entry like Rufus' funk workout "Tell Me Something Good" or Patti Labelle's R&B hit "New Attitude." And with so many solid soul collections on the market, even at a budget price this one can be easily missed.
