A surprisingly short collection, Soul Classics, Vol. 7 features eight soul and quiet storm ballads from the '70s, including Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "If You Don't Know Me By Now," Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)," and Teddy Pendergrass' "It Don't Hurt Now." While the rest of the collection's tracks are solid, they're not essential either, though Heatwave's "Always and Forever" and the Futures' "Love Is Here" are particularly nice choices. Ultimately, though, Soul Classics, Vol. 7's brevity makes it hard to recommend to anyone but the most casual of soul fans.
