AllMusic Review by

Soul Classics, Vol. 4 collects 14 more quiet storm and soul ballads from the '70s, including Rose Royce's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," Bloodstone's "Natural High," Teddy Pendergrass' "Close the Door," and the Dells' "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)." Though the compilation is a little light on quintessential tracks from the artists it features, it does include solid performances by Roy Ayers, Major Harris, Main Ingredient, and the Spinners. Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "Hope That We Can Be Together Soon," Enchantment's "Gloria," and the O'Jays' "You Got Your Hooks in Me" complete this unique, but not definitive, soul compilation.
