AllMusic Review by

St. Clair's Soul Ballads series, no matter how tempting, should be avoided unless the phrase "new stereo recordings" doesn't turn you off. That warning means that you won't be hearing the original versions; instead, you get a number of poor re-recordings, some of which are downright embarrassing (and a couple selections are covers in the traditional sense). The second volume of the series includes Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" (a particularly poor-quality live take), Teddy Pendergrass' "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration," Joe Simon's "You Keep Me Hangin' On," George McRae's "Rock Your Baby," and the Drifters' "Up on the Roof."
