AllMusic Review by

Consisting of over a dozen volumes, the Bellevue label's Soul series is riddled with poor live recordings and woefully inferior studio re-recordings, the latter of which are not specified in the track listings. These should be avoided, as there are many series and box sets -- such as Soul Hits of the '70s, Sweet Soul Music, and Can You Dig It? The '70s Soul Experience -- that are legitimate. Soul: A Fool in Love includes re-recordings of the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together," the Bar-Kays' "Holy Ghost" (not the 1978 version), Mary Wells' "My Guy," and Tyrone Davis' "Can I Change My Mind."
