AllMusic Review by

Released not in 2001, but four unexciting years before that, Sonic Attack 2001 compiles highlights from the clutch of albums Nik Turner recorded for the Cleopatra label earlier in the decade, with a couple of bonuses thrown in for completist collectors. Despite opening with one of several tracks taken from his 1994 remake of the earlier Xitintoday LP, the meat of the album lies within his journeys back into the classic Hawkwind catalog -- "Master of the Universe," "Sonic Attack," and, most mesmerizing of all, "Opa-Loka." Turner's Anubian Lights side project also gets a look in, while an astonishing take on "You Shouldn't Do That," recorded during rehearsals for the 1995 Space Ritual tour, isn't simply an unreleased jewel, it's so good that you'll wish the whole rehearsal could be released as well!
