The title is a giveaway that this compilation of John Mayall's Decca recordings of 1966-1967 is devoted to cover versions of blues standards rather than his own compositions. A thematically consistent set, it gathers together tracks from singles and EPs, as well as relying heavily on Mayall's Crusade album, which was intended to showcase the blues masters. Four of the 11 tracks come from that album, and they include songs like "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "I Can't Quit You Baby." The guitar playing is by Peter Green, who provides some biting blues runs.
