AllMusic Review by

2001 has been a good year for Tom MacKenzie's fans, as he's released multiple CDs on, including Some Folks Do. From the old-timey sound of "Baby Rose" and the "Shoes & Stockings +" medley, to the down home vocals on "I'm Gettin' Ready to Go," these selections show MacKenzie's 30-plus years of performing skill. And to give the artist credit, he selects songs that tend to add variety, with easy listening results. When the hammer dulcimer sweeps in on "Shoes & Stockings +," it really kicks the arrangement into high gear, with a lovely meld of instrumentals. The precise, mannered patterns of "LustigerBau" contrast with the spritely, upbeat tempo of "Pappy's Hornpipe, Seneca Square Dance," yet each has its own charms and enhances this collection. In all, Some Folks Do is another enjoyable album that banjo and dulcimer fans will be glad to have in their collections.
