AllMusic Review by Joshua Glazer

Unlike most DJs, Liquid Todd comes to electronic music from a radio programmer's background. That means he knows how to balance the unfamiliar sounds of electronic music with more common rock sounds and pop hooks that your average listener can grab onto. On Todd's first CD, Action, that meant throwing together tracks by the Chemical Brothers and Fat Boy Slim into a mix that was little more than a beat-matched Electronica Smash Hits collection. Here, Todd has at least carved out a sound for himself, focusing on the nu breaks style being championed mostly in the U.K. It takes the long, melodic basslines of jungle and slows down the breaks to a much more reasonable tempo, allowing for elements of R&B and hip-hop into the mix. This can be heard most brazenly on Freq Nasty's "That's My Style," with its classic hip-hop "Go-Go-Go!" refrain. Not exactly the most mature and intelligent form of electronica, but at least none of the artists here will be name-dropped on MTV. Elements of trance are found throughout, evidently as a nod to what the press has decided will be the new sound of dance music. But it's hard at this point to get mad at Liquid Todd. He's giving the people what they want, and it still beats most mainstream "dance-pop" programming.
