AllMusic Review by

Time Life in the soul reissue business? That just can't be right. Well, by the looks of this fine mix and others, the answer is an enthusiastic yes. The theme this time out is inspiration, and there's plenty of it to be had. Whether in the gospel mode by Edwin Hawkins ("Oh Happy Day") and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles ("Abraham, Martin, and John") or by way of the black power vein compliments of the Impressions ("Keep on Pushing") and Sounds of Blackness ("Hold On (Change Is Comin')"), the grooves are solid and the charts are top-notch throughout. And with 14 more cuts to go and not just a few hits by the likes of the Staple Singers, Johnny Nash, Little Milton, the Commodores, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, this inspiring disc is the perfect soul entrée for fans who like a little purpose in their gettin' down.
