"This CD contains some tracks that are re-recorded," warns a small-print note on the inside of the booklet of this British compilation of male pop vocalists. The 16 tracks range from big names like Frank Sinatra (an aircheck of "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm"), Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, and Louis Armstrong to second-rank singers like Frankie Laine, Vic Damone, and Nelson Eddy to more obscure figures and even some curiosities, such as ex-Mamas & the Papas member Denny Doherty singing "You'll Never Know." As the title indicates, this is romantic ballad music for romantic moments (though there are a few uptempo ringers), and not by any stretch of the imagination a serious collection of the best of these artists. Also, sound quality varies widely from track to track. Curiously, despite a sleeve note claiming that the total running time is "38 mins approx," the album really runs 43:20.
