AllMusic Review by

Los Lobos' "La Bamba," New Order's "True Faith," Club Nouveau's "Lean on Me," Atlantic Starr's "Always," and the Communards' cover of "Never Can Say Goodbye" were, indeed, some of the biggest U.K. hits in 1987, and the stylistic range throughout the disc will no doubt appeal to voracious fans of popular music, but there are a few too many minor hits here to make for an accurate overview of the year in question. Furthermore, since this budget-priced series didn't license any material outside of Warner distribution's domain, it's actually quite restricted, made evident by its continual reliance on several artists -- like Bananarama, Simply Red, Fine Young Cannibals, Echo & the Bunnymen, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, all heard with mostly subpar representations here.
