Not a fairly accurate, or even all that general, overview of 1982 -- for this budget-priced series, Rhino U.K. didn't license any tracks from labels outside the Warner-distributed family -- Smash Hits 1982 features plenty of the artist duplication that runs throughout the series, with the likes of Bad Manners, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Randy Crawford already making second or third appearances on this, the third volume. That said, this disc does feature some of the year's most enduring hits, for better or worse, including Foreigner's "Urgent," Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots," New Order's "Temptation," Bananarama's "Shy Boy," and Laura Branigan's "Gloria."
