The 1981 volume of Rhino U.K.'s tie-in with Smash Hits magazine indicates the level of artist duplication that would run throughout the series, a side effect of using material that is strictly within the domain of Warner distribution. Therefore, there's definitely a skewed view of the '80s taking place here, but it doesn't mean the series is without value. Dollar, the English Beat, Sister Sledge, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Bad Manners make repeat appearances, and the disc is a typical mixed bag of post-disco R&B, adult contemporary, and cutting-edge post-punk and new wave. If anything, this is the only place you will hear Kleeer's "Get Ready" and Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love a Rainy Night" back to back.
