Working the back-end of polite Bay Area glitch, San Francisco's Freescha deliberately shaped Slower Than Church Music from a crate of Arovane, Boards of Canada, Diagram of Suburban Chaos, and multiple copies of Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works, Vol. 2, but the record didn't suffer much for it. Instead of sounding boringly nostalgic or characteristically unbothered, these songs were warm, approachable, and well-contained mixtures of prehistoric techno and modern micro-house, like fantastically underplayed miniature soundtracks to some lost '80s computer movie.
