AllMusic Review by

Trombonist/arranger Slide Hampton's debut as a leader is most notable for including both Freddie Hubbard and Booker Little on trumpet. This out-of-print LP also includes Harold McKinney on baritone horn, tenor saxophonist George Coleman, baritonist Jay Cameron, bassist George Tucker and either Kenny Dennis or Pete LaRoca on drums. In addition to a few jazz standards (including "Autumn Leaves" and "Woody'n You"), Hampton performs some of his originals, most notably "Newport," which had been recorded by Maynard Ferguson. The hard bop music is ably interpreted by the medium-size group, which was overflowing with young talent.
