Sixties Generation: 1965 Review

by Tim Sendra

To the casual customer, the Sixties Generation series may look like a pretty good deal. For a low price, you get ten songs by some of the biggest artists of the era. The 1965 volume has classics by Gary Lewis & the Playboys ("This Diamond Ring"), Wayne Fontana ("A Groovy Kind of Love"), the Vogues ("You're the One"), and seven other fine examples of '60s rock, pop, and soul. The only problem is that almost all the songs are either live versions or remakes from a much later period in the artists' careers. Although a few of the tunes aren't terrible in their updated versions, what listeners are really going to want and need are the originals. This collection, and all the volumes in the Sixties Generation series, is a waste of time and money designed to fool unwitting consumers. Don't let it happen to you.
