This small-label release features the wavering and at times overly emotional vocals of Joy Adams backed by a trio that has Bruce Klauber on drums and occasionally vibes and baritone sax. The songs are excellent and the rhythm section is decent but Adams was clearly not ready yet to record. Her long notes are quite unsteady, she is often out of tune, and although her sincerity counts for something, it does not count for enough. A few more years of practicing fundamentals were needed before putting her voice down for history, because some of this CD is a bit unlistenable.
