The collector's label IAJRC reissued 16 of the first 18 selections recorded by the Jack Teagarden Orchestra on this well-conceived LP. With such sidemen as first trumpeter Charlie Spivak, baritonist Ernie Caceres and rhythm guitarist Allan Reuss, the trombonist had a solid foundation for his big band. The orchestra in the long run never caught on (although it lasted seven years) and caused Teagarden many financial headaches but that cannot be told from these enthusiastic early recordings. Teagarden has vocals on nine of the tracks, Linda Keene is heard from on three and Jean Arnold sings two, so the emphasis is on dance music rather than jazz, but these historic recordings have their memorable moments.
