The music on this CD is difficult to classify. Flutist Garret King and Jim LaDiana (who doubles on guitar and keyboards) are the main voices in a quartet that also includes bassist Trevor Lindsey and drummer Dave Bauer. The performances are moody and atmospheric, sometimes bordering on new age but not quite as sleepy. The nine group originals generally feature long melody statements and sometimes include nature sounds; Debbie Bauer takes a haunting vocal on "Your Eyes." What lifts the music above being merely suitable as background music are the many fine flute solos of King. Quite often he digs into the tunes, uplifting the material and showing that he would be quite comfortable in a more jazz-oriented setting. But listeners who are into spontaneity and exciting improvising will probably find this good-natured effort to be a bit too tame.
