Leave it to a United Kingdom record company (West Side) to release a Teddy Pendergrass compilation that blows its competitors away. This is an as-down-as-it-gets collection of the Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes ex-lead singer's Philadelphia International recordings. The title's a little misleading -- all of these weren't singles, and they missed a few goodies, i.e., "Be Sure" -- but, overall, it doesn't get much better than these 28 fuse blowers from Pendergrass in his prime. Losers like "Life Is a Song Worth Singing" were mercifully left off, but it does contains late-night, red-light specials, Holy Ghost-ish wailers, and enough weeping willies to keep you bingeing for days.
