Signature Series: Heart of Country Review

by Heather Phares

Readers' Digest's Signature Series: Heart of Country collects 14 romantic country and folk songs from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, including John Denver's "Annie's Song," Roger Miller's "Husbands and Wives," Merle Haggard's "Today I Started Loving You Again," and Conway Twitty's "Hello Darlin'." While the collection features some of country's biggest names, it doesn't have that many of those artists' biggest songs. Still, tracks by Eddy Raven, Lee Greenwood, the Kendalls, and Patsy Cline don't make it a total loss. Die-hard country fans may not have much use for this album, but someone wanting some romantic, countrified mood music might find it worthwhile.
