Sam Fan Thomas is the king of makassi, a lighter sound than makossa, but just as infectious. He's also Cameroon's best-known artist here (Francis Bebey, a special case, aside). This mid-'80s album was a major hit in Paris, but hard to find in the States. The familiar sound -- soukous-reminiscent but a little more "African" and harder in the rhythm -- is near its best here.
