Shoplifting rush to the raw point on their debut EP out on Kill Rock Stars -- Shoplifting mean business. This 15-minute EP calls upon the energy of Shoplifting's influences of '80s punk/new wave/no wave heroes such as Gang of Four and Sonic Youth, while mustering up their own intense flavor. Noisy, disjointed guitars pluck out of tune against the tribal thump of the bass and drums, highlighted on "Raw Nails Now" and "Ask Me." The male/female vocal exchange kicks this intensity of raw music to another level -- the powerful energy that Shoplifting emit turns to a dark and eerie area that reminds one of Slant 6. Shoplifting present a great first EP, leaving you feeling hopeful on the state of punk affairs today.
