This volume of the Shape Fitness Music series is subtitled "All Fitness Conditioning," but seems to emphasize walking. Its bundle of disco and Hi-NRG dance tracks are arranged in an ascending arc of beats per minute, to ensure proper warm-up and pacing while working out. The continuously mixed set leaves the starting blocks with Evelyn Thomas' "Reflections" (138 bpm) and accelerates through the pulsating thump of the Real McCoy's "Run Away" (143 bpm) before peaking with the 144-bpm rhythm of Claudja Barry and "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes." While song quality can be an issue -- Suzy-Q's blustery, mechanistic "Computer Music" was the only 143 bpm cool-down song available? -- Shape Fitness Music does a fine job of keeping the beat.
