AllMusic Review by

Shag music is the most dubious term going, nobody knows what it means. It includes every form of music from Bill Deal & the Rondells to Willie Tee. You can now add British Motown remakes to the shag controversy. The second of two volumes include aged-in-soul Motown artists' on "This Old Heart of Mine" (Contours), Mary Wells' "You Beat Me to the Punch" (the original is much better), and the Originals' "Please Mr. Postman" (member Freddie Gorman co-wrote the classic made famous by the Marvelettes). The selections make this more interesting than volume one. Check out "Since I Lost My Baby" by Carolyn Crawford, "More Love" by the Fifth Dimension, Betty Lavettes' "Jimmy Mack," and "Ooh Child" by Mary Wilson. Also includes two duets by Johnny Bristol & Liz Lands: "Someday We'll Be Together" and "Hang on in There Baby," and "How Sweet It Is," a Lands solo.
