AllMusic Review by

Not everybody was smart enough to pick up the Lurkers' first singles as they hit the streets, and their label, Beggars Banquet, was in no mood to keep them on the shelves. By summer 1979, however, demand for the back catalog was strong enough that this two-disc EP became one of the season's most essential purchases. There are no bonuses here -- Shadow is, quite simply, a double pack featuring on the first disc, the "Shadow"/"Love Story" coupling; and, on the second, "Freak Show"/"Mass Media Believer." (A second, similar, package wrapped up the band's third and fourth singles.) But now, nobody has an excuse not to own some of the finest 45s of the last couple of years.
