Though your mother may have warned you not to judge a book by its cover, the fact is that sometimes what you see is precisely what you get. Case in point, the debut CD from Seven Channels, the back cover of which reveals two intriguing facts: one, that the band is sponsored by a certain national retail chain, and, two, that the group looks just like every other modern rock quartet you've ever seen. And, in this case, the music contained therein completely justifies the conclusions any self-respecting cynic has already jumped to. Soulless, faceless rock you'd be hard-pressed to pick out in a lineup, this is the kind of product that makes a brief splash when some marketing executive chooses a song like "Breathe" for the soundtrack to some lightweight teen flick, then disappears just as quickly as it arrived as ever-evolving pop culture trends move on to hype the next one-hit alternawonder. Except, in this case, it is kind of doubtful they'll even get the one hit....
