This CD features Charlie Parker during live appearances from two periods. The first eight selections are taken from his Royal Roost broadcasts of 1948-49, music that is available in more coherent fashion elsewhere but is well worth hearing, featuring Miles Davis on one version of "Hot House" and Kenny Dorham elsewhere. The second half of this disc originated from the Rockland Palace Dance Hall in 1952, is poorly recorded (lots of audience noise) and has been reissued by many labels through the years. Bird is heard with a four-piece rhythm section (with strings added on "Laura") and plays reasonably well.
