Bringing something new to the game has never been what E.S.G. is about, so when the Southern rapper throws an ambitious word like "movement" into the title it could mean disaster. The man's a serviceable rapper, strong enough for the numerous club cuts that appear on Screwed Up Movement. Problem is, E.S.G. feels he has something to prove, and when boasting about his "movement" or cutting down the new kids for their lack of experience, the album falls flat and the thin, uninspired production can't carry it. The collaborations with Bun B and Chamillionaire ("Ride Wit Us") or Jae Millz ("Gangsta") offer some thrills, as does "Watch Yo Back," a diss directed at Slim Thug, which the track listing points out mixtape style. While the general public can ignore this lukewarm effort and try a Z-Ro or Bun B album instead, packing in a "slowed and throwed" bonus disc remixed by DJ Dolby Devious makes this collection a better value, and a better excuse for the E.S.G. faithful.
