"Genuine Article" begins the PeeChees' Scented Gum 7" with mod, garage rock ruckus, and ominous, post-punk guitar riffs and basslines. "Tea Biscuit to Show" is more in the line of Washington, D.C., hardcore, but the short blast of a song is hardly straightforward. On the B-side, "Olive Oil" is a grindy, dirty, pogo punk tune turned beautiful with the addition of drummer Molly Neuman's background vocals behind Christopher Appelgren's characteristic shout and growl. The last track, "Tomfoolery," is a mid-tempo bit of anarchy that recalls the Sex Pistols. All in all, this short EP shows a band in its early stages, still working through its influences, but a dynamic, thrilling, catchy band at that.
