AllMusic Review by

Although this group's title is silly (the Perfect Jazz (Repertory) Quintet), pianist Dick Hyman did gather together a fine all-star mainstream group comprised of trumpeter Pee Wee Erwin, Bob Wilber on various reeds, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Bobby Rosengarden. On this out of print LP they perform concise ("How Deep Is the Ocean" at 4:15 is the longest tune) versions of ten Irving Berlin compositions. The emphasis is on the melody and the solos are short (Berlin would have enjoyed the set), making the out of print LP both pleasing and somewhat predictable.
