AllMusic Review by

Bellevue's Saturday Night Party series, like other releases from the label, features only a handful of original recordings per volume. Poorly recorded live versions and studio re-recordings are far more common. The label specifies which selections are live, but it does not bother to note which ones are inferior studio remakes. That alone is a case for ignoring the whole series. Among the many reasons to avoid Saturday Night Party: '50s Party, Vol. 1 are substandard versions of Patti Page's "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window," the Four Seasons' "Big Girls Don't Cry," Pat Boone's "Love Letters in the Sand," and the Platters' "The Great Pretender."
