Kari Gaffney has a deep sultry, and sometimes heavy voice. She swings in her own fashion and is assisted on various selections by up to three musicians, with Jeff Williams (on guitar and/or bass) sometimes dueting with the singer, and Hal Melia adding some flavor with his reeds. Sometimes the songs (including "Satin Doll") are reharmonized a bit so they generally sound fresh, even if none of these versions will make one forget other more definitive renditions. Gaffney has potential for the future, particularly if she learns a bit more subtlety and lightens the tone a little.
