With a sound that draws on the spacy grooves of Hawkwind and the swirling post-metal of Neurosis, U.S. Christmas' trippy second album, Salt the Wound, is an exercise in stoner rock hypnosis. Entrancing listeners with its repetitive riffs and then weighing them down with its heaviness to prevent them from simply floating away, the album shows the beginnings of the creative ambitions the band would later grow into (and also lead to them being signed to Neurot Recordings). That said, U.S. Christmas' future greatness does not diminish the impact this record has, and any well-balanced stoner rock record collection would be well served by a copy of Salt the Wound.
