Salt Licks, recorded in one day in a New York City apartment, is simply an intimate collection of acoustic strumming, low, lazy, country-ish vocals, and warm organ drones that takes a good deal of inspiration from Will Oldham and Palace. The Salt Licks' writing might not always be amazing, but the laid-back texture and friendliness of their recording tends to make up for this -- despite their minor misfires, the eight tracks on this record have a charm and warmth that tends to be quite appealing.
