From a longtime collaborator and guitarist for Thomas Mapfumo (as well as Dorothy Masuka), Sabhuku covers the music of Jonah Sithole, a fellow in the chimurenga movement. The music has elements of soukous guitar (this is pop from Zimbabwe, after all), but also is deeply influenced by mbira music (this is pop from Zimbabwe after all). The music isn't bad, but does seem to miss something with the absence of Mapfumo (probably because Mapfumo is by far the better-known and more than likely the better musician). Still, for fans of Mapfumo and the Black Unlimited who have already heard everything that's been released, this album might give another glance into the beauty of chimurenga.
